S&P Downgrades France, Austria; Spares Germany
Ratings agency Standard & Poor's said late Friday that it has lowered the long-term ratings on Cyprus, Italy, Portugal and Spain by two notches; lowered the long-term ratings on Austria, France, Malta, Slovakia, and Slovenia by one notch; and affirmed the long-term ratings on Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

BRAEHEAD TO HOST SLOVAKIA
Great Britain will take on Slovakia at Glasgow's Braehead Arena in their Davis Cup match in February. The venue, announced on Friday, was the scene of recent victories over Luxembourg and Hungary which secured promotion back to the second tier of the competition, Europe/Africa Zone Group I.

Luxembourg shocks Slovakia in friendly
Striker Daniel Da Mota scored two second-half goals to give Luxembourg a shock 2-1 win over Slovakia in an international friendly on Wednesday. After striker Erik Jendrisek gave Slovakia the lead in the 55th minute, Da Mota turned the match with goals in the 61st and 81st minutes. Slovakia, ranked 20th in the world, was without defender Martin Skrtel, who has a thigh injury.

Slovakia defender Martin Skrtel has a thigh injury and is out of Wednesday's friendly at Luxembourg. The Slovak football federation said Tuesday in a statement that Skrtel had left the national squad and will undergo treatment back at Liverpool after discussions with the Premier League club. Skrtel was injured in Sunday's match against Chelsea.
