The 3-0 loss to Slovakia meant Sweden, which went on to win the men's ice hockey gold medal, faced Switzerland instead of Canada in the quarterfinals.

Glen Hanlon fired as Slovakia ice hockey coach
Glen Hanlon has been fired as Slovakia coach after the team's poor performance at the ice hockey world championship. The Slovak Ice Hockey Federation said Wednesday that its executive committee voted 7-2 to dismiss Hanlon. The 54-year-old Canadian had been given a four-year contract in March 2010 until the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
